Our Ski Services Explained

After enough time, scratches, grooves, and defects in your ski equipment start to show up. Getting the right repairs and adjustments made after each ski season ensures your boots, skis, and other accessories work at their best all year long. In Dillon, finding quality ski shop services is easy - just come to Sun & Ski Sports. Here's a quick rundown of what our technicians do:

Ski Tuning

This is a comprehensive service that improves your skis' overall performance. By flattening the bases and sharpening the edges, we'll ensure they deliver smooth speed and effortless glide over and through the snow. Then, we'll machine wax them so they are easy to control.

Ski Mounting

Ski mounting services involve adjusting your ski bindings (the mechanism that locks your boots with your skis) so they are secured and tailored to your size and intended ski style. As a final step, we'll test our work to ensure the bindings are correctly in place, so you can enjoy a comfortable and seamless experience while on the slopes.

Ski Waxing

Ski wax helps enhance your rides in two ways. It protects your skis from weathering and compounding damage over time, and it acts as a lubricant, allowing you to turn and glide easily over the snow with as little friction as possible. This ensures you can confidently maneuver as you ski down the slopes. Sun & Ski Sports technicians can provide machine and hand wax services. Either way, your skis will be well taken care of.

Please note: Service times may vary, and some tune-ups can be completed the same day. We recommend calling ahead to confirm availability if you’re on a tight schedule.

About the Dillon Area

Tucked away in the heart of Summit County, Dillon is a charming little mountain town with a cozy population of about 1,000 residents. Perched at an elevation of over 9,000 feet, it’s surrounded by the stunning peaks of the Rockies and the sparkling waters of Dillon Reservoir.

Winters here are long and snowy, with chilly temperatures that create perfect conditions for powder days, while summers offer refreshing mountain air and breathtaking alpine views. Dillon’s vibrant skiing community flourishes thanks to its prime location — just a stone's throw from some of Colorado’s most iconic ski resorts — making it a go-to spot for winter sports lovers from all over the globe.

Breckenridge Ski Resort

Just about 20 minutes from Dillon, Breckenridge beautifully blends historic charm with thrilling high-alpine adventures. With five unique peaks, there's truly something for everyone: gentle, wide beginner runs on Peak 9, fun terrain parks on Peak 8, and challenging steep chutes and bowls above the treeline on Peaks 10 and 6. The Imperial Express SuperChair, which is the highest lift in North America, gives you access to some breathtaking expert terrain. Plus, the town's lively après-ski scene adds an extra layer of fun after a day spent on the slopes.

Keystone Resort

Just a quick 10-minute drive from Dillon, Keystone Resort is a fantastic spot for families and is famous for having the largest night skiing slopes in Colorado. With three mountain peaks, there's a trail for everyone — whether you prefer the smooth, gentle slopes of Dercum Mountain or the steep, thrilling runs and tree glades in The Outback. Intermediate skiers will love the long, rolling runs, while experts can dive into some in-bounds bowl skiing without needing to hike. And don’t forget to take a moment to soak in the breathtaking views of the Tenmile Range from the summit between your runs!

Arapahoe Basin

Just a short 15-minute drive from Dillon, Arapahoe Basin is renowned for its incredibly long ski season, often stretching all the way into June. Affectionately dubbed "The Legend," A-Basin is a true paradise for advanced and expert skiers, boasting steep chutes, narrow gullies, and vast bowls above the treeline. While there are some runs for beginners and intermediates, it’s the mountain’s rugged terrain that really sets it apart. On sunny spring days, "The Beach" at the base transforms into a lively tailgating scene, complete with stunning views of the slopes.
